It’s been a while!

Over the last several weeks, Gerry and I have been very busy. We sold our house in Noank (to my sister Ali and her husband TJ) and moved into one of the condos we own in Groton. (It has been used as a rental property for the last several years.) It was time to downsize before we take off to Florida and the Bahamas in 6 weeks! Within a week of moving in, we gutted the full bath on the second floor and the kitchen. We are slowly but surely putting it all back together. I will post with before and after pictures once it is complete! As with any construction project, we have had delays. I am writing this blog from the boat on a mooring at Block Island. We needed to get away for a few days to reenergize and oh yea, we have more amenities on the boat, than we do in the condo right now!

We took a vacation with our good friends John & Lynda on Talisman and Frank & Lorna on Little Gull. We started the trip on Sat 7/27 at Watch Hill Yacht Club for the annual Quad Party. Years ago, Watch Hill YC, Ram Island YC, Mason’s Island YC, and the Wadawanuck Club in Stonington began to rotate and host a party every year. This year Watch Hill hosted. It was a great event and a great way to start our vacation. And they gave us the mooring right in front of the Club for the evening, pretty cool!

On Sunday, we headed to Montauk NY for two nights. The first night Gerry and I hosted a great Mexican dinner on our boat. With us on a power boat, we arrived hours before the sail boaters, so it worked out well for all of us!

Monday night we had a fabulous dinner at the Inlet Restaurant with its amazing view of the South Fork and Gardiners Island.  Great friends and great food!

Tuesday, we took off for Three Mile Harbor for two nights. The weather was not great, so we relaxed and read books. Exactly what you should do on vacation! One night we had jambalaya on Talisman and the other day we headed into The Beach Hut on Main in East Hampton for lunch which meant no one was super hungry for dinner.

Thursday and Friday nights we grabbed moorings at Shelter Island YC. One evening we had dinner on Little Gull and the other night at Isolahttps://isolany.com/. This is another one of our favorite Italian restaurants! The food and service are outstanding.

The weather cooperated and on Friday, we all piled onto AdventureUs and headed down into Peconic Bay. There is an amazing spot at The North Sea Dune by Scallop Bay Preserve. We anchor right up close to the shore and the water is so warm and clean! Swimming is the best! But you can also swim to shore, hike up the sand hill (which has a amazing view) and either run down or bring cardboard or a lunch tray and slide all the way down. The boys mooned a group of 20 something girls that were on another boat halfway down and Lynda, swam all the way in and hiked up about a third of the way! Lorna and I whimped out, floated and drank wine!

As we all left Dering Harbor on Shelter Island on Saturday morning, we were lucky enough to stay one more night in West Harbor on Fisher’s Island, NY knowing once we got home, the move was starting, and we were pushing the inevitable off as long as we could.

Gerry and I have also been very busy with Cortina this summer. She is a 64 ft custom Huckins Yacht owned by Dave and Wendy, the owners of https://www.dogwatchcafe.com/. https://www.gooddogcharters.com/ hosts private dining and cruises out of Stonington CT. Gerry is one of the Captains and I work as either the First Mate or Chef. It is work but wow it’s an amazing experience. The people we meet are just great. Typically, there is a celebration such as a birthday or anniversary and many times families with multiple generations are onboard. A future blog post with more on this!
