The crossing!

aandgleger

A long run yesterday, leaving before daylight from left Key Biscayne, across the Gulf Stream, over the top of Bimini and then 68 miles due East to the Berry Islands arriving at Great Harbor Cay at 4:15 pm! We made it!

The crossing was lumpy with 2-3 ft waves on the nose over north the of Bimini. It calmed a bit, picked back up a bit and once land was in sight it was just amazing!

We anchored in the inner harbor for our first night and hope to get a dock at the marina this morning!

We were asked about our ditch bag! Here are the details.

His and hers….

Epirb’s and AIS MOB’s ( satellite safety comms )

Hand held VHF radios

A whistle

A knife

A bottle of water

Two SlimJim’s (Yum! Gotta have salt for survival)

And our Passport Cards

Thankfully the bag got dusty in the way over and not wet!

Very cool.. I heard that crossing can be a nightmare, weather can change in a blink of a eye. Congrats on getting there safe and sound... I am sure it was very stressful. Ditch bag is cool, thanks for sharing where did you buy that bag?
